CHARLESTOWN, CORNWALL

The first time I saw Charlestown was back in 1999 – on our way with friends through Cornwall on the search for a mid morning coffee.  We espied a sign ‘Hotel’, so we turned off, then felt we were in a time warp, for over the brow of the hill there appeared the tall masts and rigging of a sailing ships.

The vision developed into the whole Poldark experience.  We could not believe it, so unspoilt.  Sketches were done, and from them the etching was born in August, the same year.

We have returned twice more since then, being lucky on one occasion, to witness one of the large ships being manoeuvred by hand-hauled ropes out of the harbour.

It is a truly magical place and so beautifully preserved.
